Collection Number: 84.1.1-84.1.28
This collection consists of twenty-eight (28) drawings and paintings from Santa Cruz, California artist Dick Obenchain. The collection includes three (3) large approx. 14W”x 10 1/2H” watercolors, sixteen (16) pen and ink drawings ranging in size from 8”x10” to 12”x16”, seven (7) ink and watercolor artworks, and two (2) felt tip pen drawings [84.1.27-28], which sadly, are now unaccounted for. The artworks are in good condition, and were completed in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. The artworks are of scenes throughout Santa Cruz County or Davenport such as Neary Lagoon (84.1.11), Sand Hill Beach, Davenport; and scenes from Mission Hill, Beach Hill, Locust Street and others. The paintings and drawings were donated by Richard Forrest Obenchain Jr. to the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History in 1984. Due to certain biographical information being the same such as birthdate, education and exhibitions, it is assumed that Richard F. Obenchain went by Dick Obenchain and is therefore both the donor and creator of these works.
