Collection Number: Pending
This collection contains ten (10) 11×15” scrapbooks belonging to John Strohbeen of King Street, Santa Cruz. The scrapbooks are in fair-poor condition with cracking pages, some loose pages and bindings. The scrapbooks contain primarily newspaper clippings of Old Santa Cruz columns by Ernest Otto, clippings on Santa Cruz locals serving in World War II, weddings, and two scrapbooks filled with archaeology articles from the mid-1940’s and 1950’s. These are interesting scrapbooks which provide a look into the archeological discoveries of the time—particularly “missing links” between apes and humans. Two scrapbooks contain primarily war memorabilia such as articles on rationing, pro-war propaganda advertisements, and clippings about local boys heading to war. Another scrapbook contains newspaper clippings pertaining to the entertainment industry such as publicity photos and articles on the 1920’s-1950s radio show Amos n’Andy; advertisements, magazine spreads and publicity stills 1930’s-40’s popular child actress Shirley Temple (1928-2014) and her movies; articles on musicians and singers; and more. Date range: mid 1900’s-1960s
