This collection consists of seven (7) boxes of items belonging to Edwin Fields (1868-1948) and Esther (Fields) Rice of Santa Cruz, CA. These items provide a glimpse at the history of the Santa Cruz Sentinel and its early beginnings during the 1880’s. Items include newspaper clippings, photos of Edwin and the Santa Cruz Sentinel staff, diaries, accounts, and ledgers belonging to Edwin, and much more. Other items in this collection belong to Edwin Field’s daughter Esther Rice and her husband Edwin Russell Rice. These items pertain to Esther and Russell’s ownership of the Capitola-Santa Cruz Airport and Sky Park in Scotts Valley. Items include: photos, legal correspondence concerning Sky Park, and letters. Other items of interest pertain to Edwin Russell Rice’s service with the Civilian Air Patrol before and after World War II. Such items include his badges and medals awarded while in service, certificates awarded, dog tags, newspaper clippings, and other mementoes regarding his service. Other items include family photos of Edwin Russell Rice, including his sister, mother and father; applications and certificates for the Civilian Air Patrol from the 1940’s-1950’s, historical research from Researcher’s Anonymous of Santa Cruz, and much more.
