Peace Day was an annual festival in Santa Cruz celebrating peace and promoting civic involvement. Beginning in May 1985 with 1,000 attendees, Peace Day lasted 10 years until May 1995 and grew in popularity during those years. The Peace Day Project was a grassroots movement founded by Bonita Anne Mugnani and Sheila Carrillo with the help of a steering committee. The Peace Day event was held annually, taking place at sites such as Mission Plaza Park, San Lorenzo Benchlands, and the Civic Auditorium.
