Abstract

This collection consists of used and unused hats of various styles and by various designers and manufactures.  Many of these hats are undated and some may be reproductions.  There are two reasons for wearing a hat.  One is as head cover to protect the wearer from cold or inclement weather.  The other is as a fashion accessory to be noticed.  Hats were popular until World War II when they were impractical to wear because of the need to rush to air raid shelters.  Nowadays hats are worn for special occasions or as head protection.
