This collection consists of a scrapbook of Ernest Otto articles, it is in good condition. There are also loose articles by Ernest Otto, ephemera, and a soft bound book “Ernest Otto’s ‘Old Santa Cruz’ Columns” compiled by Patricia Brien and Geoffrey Dunn. Ernest Otto was a popular and well known citizen of Santa Cruz. He began his newspaper career soon after graduating from Santa Cruz High School in 1888. He worked for the Morning Talk then the Santa Cruz Surf and finally the Santa Cruz Sentinel. He wrote the “Old Timer,” “Old Santa Cruz” and/or “Waterfront” columns of the newspaper. In 1919 he became the editor for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, keeping this position for the rest of his career. He worked for various newspaper in various capacities for over 62 years.
